Reversing Carspreading conference 2025
Clean Cities and The SUV Alliance were proud to host the Reversing Carspreading conference in September 2025. The conference brought together the growing movement against larger cars to look at how we can take action locally and nationally over the next year.
We enjoyed a day of expert panels and workshops to hear the latest research on the impacts of carspreading on road danger, learn from and be inspired by those already taking action, and connect with leading organisations and experts working in this exciting space.
Sian Berry MP and Barry Sheerman, former MP and now global ambassador for PACTS, opened the day by speaking passionately about their respective careers campaigning for safer streets.
Experts Dr Anna Goodman, James Nix and Ruth Carlson spoke through the most recent research on the harms caused by large SUVs.
Our breakout sessions saw speakers including Alice Ferguson (Playing Out CIC), Nicola Pastore (Solve the School Run), Emma Bud (Client Earth), Anna Goodman, Tim Dexter and Anna Krajinska (Transport & Environment), Jamie Inman and Edie Gill-Holder present on issues from children in the public realm, to vehicle tax, to designing creative campaigns against carspreading.
We concluded the day with a panel inlcuding Zeina Hawa (Sustrans), Zak Viney (Living Streets), Mat MacDonald (West Midlands road safety commissioner) and Andrew Simms (Badvertising) who looked at the upcoming Road Safety Strategy and how we can influence government policy on SUVs, carspreading and road safety.
It was a day in parts inspiring, emotional, illuminating and shocking. Everyone went away having learned something new and there was a palpable energy for change in the room.
Many thanks to everyone who attended and spoke for making the day such a wonderful success.
